General Housing Scholarship
We are pleased to announce the modified extension of the General Housing Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year! Students living on campus who do not have their tuition reduced through the Live and Learn in 麻豆无码版 initiative will automatically receive the scholarship in the form of a $500 discount on their semester housing costs. No additional application is necessary beyond submission of the housing application, which is now available on . This scholarship was originally created in recognition of the ongoing financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and in an effort to make the amazing experience of living on campus an option to as many students as possible.
Eligibility Requirements
Students living on campus who do not have their tuition reduced through the Live and Learn in 麻豆无码版 Initiative are eligible for this benefit. Students do not have to live in student housing for both semesters to qualify for the scholarship. All of the room types in UAA鈥檚 residential community are eligible to be discounted through this scholarship (i.e., apartment, residence hall, single, double, shared room, etc.). For more information regarding eligibility requirements for living in student housing and how to apply, please visit the How-to-Apply webpage.
Students with 鈥減ending鈥 residency status must first complete their residency with the Office of Admissions before being eligible to receive the General Housing Scholarship. You can view your residency status on under Student Services and Account Information/Student Records/View Student Information. Please see the 麻豆无码版 Resident Tuition webpage for more information. If you have any questions, you can contact the Office of Admissions at uaaresidency@alaska.edu. Leaving your residency status unresolved could significantly impact your tuition or housing rates.
Terms and Conditions
This is a $500 per semester scholarship for a total possible annual discount for eligible students of $1,000 if a student lives in student housing in both the fall and spring semesters. There is not a separate application for the scholarship or any other action required beyond living in student housing. The General Housing Scholarship is only applied in the fall and spring semesters. Scholarships will be applied within two weeks following the student鈥檚 move-in to student housing up through the withdrawal deadline each semester. If a student moves onto campus after the beginning of the semester and has their housing charges prorated, the amount of the scholarship will also be prorated.
Eligible residents can receive both the General Housing Scholarship and the Academic Honors Housing Scholarship for a total possible annual award of $2,500. The scholarship can only be awarded in the form of a discount (i.e. a reduction in the amount charged to a student鈥檚 account), and cannot be used to pay for the deposit, application fee or any other charges or fees a student owes to UAA.
The scholarship amount, eligibility requirements and determination process, and all other terms related to the General Housing Scholarship included here are subject to change, with or without notice, at the sole discretion of the university.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is there a separate application for the General Housing Scholarship?
No, there is not a separate scholarship application. The scholarship will be automatically added to the student account of eligible residents living on campus in the fall and spring semesters.
-
I noticed that UAA is also offering a $750 Academic Honors Housing Scholarship. If
I receive that benefit, will I also receive the General Housing Scholarship?
Eligibility for these two scholarships is determined independently from one another. This means that eligible students will receive both a $500 per semester discount through the General Housing Scholarship and a $750 per semester discount through the Academic Honors Housing Scholarship for a potential total discount of $1,250 off the semester room cost for student housing or $2,500 for the academic year.
-
My student housing costs are covered by another scholarship or other funding source.
Can I receive the value of the General Housing Scholarship in some other way?
No. The General Housing Scholarship is only applied in the form of a discount on the semester room cost of student housing. Students who do not have housing costs from UAA on their student account are not eligible to receive this benefit.
-
I am an out-of-state or international student eligible for the Live and Learn in
麻豆无码版 tuition benefit. Will I still receive this scholarship in addition to having
my tuition reduced?
No. Students living on campus are eligible for either the Live and Learn in 麻豆无码版 tuition benefit or the General Housing Scholarship discount, and would not receive both benefits. In order to receive either benefit, you must first complete the residency assessment process. You can view your residency status on under Student Services and Account Information/Student Records/View Student Information. Please see the 麻豆无码版 Resident Tuition webpage for more information. If you have any questions about your residency status, you can contact the Office of Admissions at uaaresidency@alaska.edu.

The semester room cost for housing is on my student account but the scholarship is
not. What should I do?
Scholarships will be applied to eligible student accounts within two weeks following their student housing check-in date as long as that date is before the withdrawal deadline in the fall or spring semester. Students who have moved in and do not see the scholarship discount on their student accounts after two weeks should first thoroughly read the information on this website to ensure they meet all the eligibility requirements to receive the scholarship.
Please note that students who have a UAA Residency Code of non-resident or international student will receive the Live and Learn in 麻豆无码版 tuition benefit and are not eligible for the General Housing Scholarship. See the previous FAQ for more information.
If you are eligible for the General Housing Scholarship and you do not see the discount on your student account after you have lived on campus for more than two weeks, or you have other questions, please feel free to contact the Department of Residence Life at 907-751-7202 or via email at uaa_residencelife@alaska.edu. Please note that you must have moved-in prior to the withdrawal deadline in the fall or spring semester.
-
I am living in student housing over the summer. Will the General Housing Scholarship
go towards the cost for summer housing?
The General Housing Scholarship is only applied in the fall and spring semesters.
-
Will the scholarship impact my financial aid?
Residence Life is obligated to notify the Financial Aid Office when a student鈥檚 semester housing costs have been adjusted in order for the student鈥檚 estimated Cost of Attendance to be updated. It is possible that this adjustment will result in a scenario in which too much aid has been disbursed to the student or the student paid a higher amount than was necessary to the institution. The Financial Aid Office will communicate with students should any of these scenarios apply to them. If you need assistance or have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
-
Is there anything I need to know about the scholarship for my taxes?
The amount of all scholarships and grants processed by the institution in a calendar year are reported for tax purposes on Form 1098-T. Since the General Housing Scholarship is processed as a reduction in the amount charged to a student for housing expenses (or a discount) as opposed to a payment on the account, the amount of the scholarship will not be reported on Form 1098-T. Discounts are also not reported on this form.
