Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ WWAMI Payback Obligation

The education of all Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ WWAMI medical students is subsidized by the State of Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ via payments to the University of Washington School of Medicine. 

The State of Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ views these subsidies as loans that are repayable once medical education is complete.  Loan repayment can be deferred during residency training.

Repayment can take two forms.  The loan can simply be repaid in regular payments, or it can be forgiven by medical practice in the State of Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ.  For Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ WWAMI medical students who entered medical school in the fall of 2007 or later, complete loan forgiveness requires three (3) years of medical practice in a rural setting in Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ or five (5) years in an urban location in the state.

Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ WWAMI Tuition Information

Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ WWAMI students pay tuition to the Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ for the foundation phase courses, in an amount equal to University of Washington School of Medicine resident tuition. Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ WWAMI students pay resident tuition to UWSOM for years two through four, thanks to the State of Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ's subsidization of the program.
