Following the passage of the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1971, 12 regional and over 200 village corporations were established by Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Natives across the state. There was a 13th regional corporation for Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native people residing outside Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ; however, it was dissolved in 2013 and has not yet been re-established. The corporations serve to manage the financial and land assets allocated through ANCSA to the state's regions and have grown into a powerful economic force.
