Anchorage, 鶹 (Dec. 15) – Another of 鶹’s top prep talents is staying in-state as UAA women’s basketball coach Matt Thune announced Monday that Wasilla star Savannah Kroon has signed a scholarship agreement to play for the Seawolves.

A 5-9 guard, Kroon has been a key part of Warriors teams that have made the last three ASAA 4A State Tournament title games, winning it all as a sophomore in 2024.

As a junior last season, she was Wasilla’s third-leading scorer at 11.2 points per game, playing alongside fellow college signees Layla Hays (Iowa) and Mylee Anderson (UAA). She also posted 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.1 steals and a 2-to-1 assist-turnover ratio, helping her team into the state-title game with 12 points in its semifinal overtime victory over Mountain City.

“We’re really excited to bring Savannah into our program,” said Thune, who has UAA off to a 7-2 start and ranked No. 25 in the national poll in his first season. “She’s from a basketball family with UAA roots and has a natural connection with Mylee from their high school days. Savannah works hard, carries herself with great character, and we can’t wait to see how she develops here.”

Kroon was also a flag football star as the Warriors’ starting quarterback, earning Railbelt Conference Player of the Year honors as a senior and leading the Warriors to top-three finishes at the state tournament in 2024 and 2025.

She will become the sixth member of her extended family to play collegiate sports, including brother Parker Kroon, who is currently a redshirt sophomore on the UAA men’s basketball team.
