The Remote Area Medical (RAM) nonprofit clinic recently made its first visit to Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ, setting up pop-up clinics in Anchorage and Fairbanks to provide free dental, vision, and medical services to those in need. However, RAM faced a challenge when it came to staffing the clinics with dental hygiene volunteers.
As summer approaches, many of Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ WWAMI first year medical students (MS1s) are participating in skills labs as they gear up for their Rural Underserved Opportunities Program (RUOP) placements in different parts of Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ.
Bernie’s Pharmacy is an Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æn-owned, independent pharmacy in Anchorage, founded in 1980 by life-long Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æn, Bernie Klouda. Over the years, Bernie provided the opportunity for pharmacy students to complete their intern rotations at Bernie’s Pharmacy, mentoring many pharmacy students and new pharmacists. Bernie had a long and distinguished career, and he believed strongly that educating pharmacists was important to ensure the health of Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æns.
School of Nursing assistant professor Megan Volkov is awarded the Advocate State Award for Excellence in Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ in recognition of her significant contribution toward increasing awareness and recognition of nurse practitioners.
