The latest edition of Spirit magazine featured UAA nursing alumni taking on Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ's needs. Since the pandemic began in early 2020, UAA's School of Nursing has graduated more than 500 new nurses into the state's health care system.
UAA alumni find many ways to stay connected and give back to their community, including nursing grad Tisha Benson, public health and ambulatory care nurse at Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Tribal Health Consortium.
UAA alumna Greer Gehler graduated from UAA’s School of Nursing with a bachelor’s degree in nursing science in December 2018. It’s been an exciting two years from landing her dream job in Providence Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Medical Center’s emergency room to providing care during COVID-19.
How integral is Providence to Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ? Not only does the hospital make up the second half of the namesake UMED District, but the organization is the largest non-government employer in the state, naturally resulting in the employment of a large number of UAA nursing and surgical technology alumni.
Angelia Trujillo, associate professor in the School of Nursing, has been awarded the UAA Alumni Humanitarian Award for her outstanding contributions to the field of nursing and to Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ’s communities. Trujillo earned her M.S. in Nursing Science from UAA in 2004, and her B.S. in Nursing Science here in 1997.
