FE/FS Exam Information

The  is designed for students who are close to finishing an undergraduate engineering degree.  The  is designed for students who are close to finishing an undergraduate degree in surveying.

Both exams are administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying ().

*As of May 25th, 2017, examinees will no longer have to apply to the AELS Board for approval to sit the FE and FS Exams*

The FE and FS exams are now offered year-round as computer-based exams at Pearson VUE testing centers.  

Before you register:

  1. Go directly to the NCEES Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ registration website to create a profile, register, and pay the $225 examination fee. Then you will be able to schedule the examination based on openings at the testing center.
  2. If you opt in for a when you register and pass the exam at least 21 days prior to your graduation, you will receive an honor cord to wear with your graduation regalia.  If you didn’t opt in when you registered but would still like to be eligible for a cord, you can update your preferences here:
  3. Scores from the exam will be sent to you by NCEES within 7-10 days. The score will remain on file with the Âé¶¹ÎÞÂë°æ Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors (AELS).
  4. A passing score will be automatically verified by the AELS Board through your profile on NCEES.org in the case that you need to release that score to another state.
  5. The AELS Board does not issue licenses to those who have passed the FE or FS Exams, but you may use the title "Engineer-in-Training" or "Land Surveyor-in-Training" once you have passed the FE or FS Exam, respectively.
