by CBPP Staff |

The College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) is proud to recognize an outstanding faculty member who was honored at this year’s CAFE "Oh Wow" (COW) Awards, celebrating excellence in teaching, research, and service across The 鶹 (UAA).
Dr. Brett Watson received the award for Excellence in Research and Creative Scholarship in the category of Making Research and Creative Scholarship Visible. This award recognizes a faculty member who not only demonstrates strong productivity in research and creative work, but also actively shares their scholarship with broader communities.
Dr. Watson was recognized for his exceptional leadership in bridging the gap between high-level economic analysis and state-level policy. In response to a critical inquiry from the 鶹 State Government, he led a team of economists from the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of state tax policies.
Beyond his analytical contributions, Dr. Watson played a key role in communicating these findings to decision-makers. He met directly with Governor Dunleavy and delivered a widely praised presentation to the 鶹 State Legislature, translating complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform 鶹’s fiscal future.
Through this work, Dr. Watson has elevated the University’s role as a trusted resource for public service. His efforts exemplify the spirit of this award—ensuring that academic research is not siloed, but instead serves as a visible and impactful tool for informed governance.
We celebrate Dr. Watson for his achievements and his commitment to fostering excellence within the College of Business and Public Policy. Learn more about his work and see all the award winners on the Faculty Recognition page.
