Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Corporations are an essential part of the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ economy. Learning the history, culture and management of these dynamic organizations is essential to anyone doing business in Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ. This program is for both Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native and non-Native students alike who plan to live and work in Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ.

Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Corporations are an economic force in the State of Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ and we need business professionals educated in the culture and management practices of these organizations.

Over fifty years after the passage of the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971, Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Corporations have diversified into successful state, national and global companies. A certificate or minor in Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Business Management prepares students for future work in Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ where you will inevitably encounter an Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Corporation, created by ANCSA, or an Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native non-profit, or tribe, affected by ANCSA.

Students who wish to complete the Occupational Endorsement Certificate (OEC) or the minor in Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Business Management must complete all course requirements with a C grade or better in each class.

Courses for both programs include:

  • AKNS A201 Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Perspectives (3 credits)
  • BA A202 Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Organizations (3)
  • BA A401 Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Corporation Business Management (3 credits)
  • BA A402 Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Corporation Leadership (4 credits)
  • Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Studies (AKNS) electives (2 or 3 credits)

! Students who opt to take the Minor in Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Business Management need only take two (2) Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Studies elective credits, but must also take BA A151 Business Foundations (3 credits). Again, this is for the students in the minor. Students in the OEC do not need to take BA A151 and must complete three (3) Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Studies elective credits.
